The veteran soap opera will continue for another year.
March 8, 2018
NBC announced today that Days of our Lives has been renewed for a 54th season. The long-running daytime soap opera reached a deal with the network to ensure that it will be staying on its afternoon schedule for at least another year.
The veteran series began over half a century ago, premiering in 1965 as a half-hour drama and expanding to a full hour a decade later. The show along with its cast and crew have won over 50 Daytime Emmy Awards, including 2015's win for Outstanding Daytime Drama. The show's episode count is approaching a staggering 13,300.

Pretty impressive. I've never watched daytime soaps but I know quite a few people that do and I'm sure they are happy it's continuing. I'm always stunned anymore when a show makes it past 3 season, yet here they are at 54! Well, good on them.

When DOOL goes off the air, TV will officially be dead. Just a fantastic show. Haters are shallow lonely people living in their parents basement.

Yes, people still watch this "junk." As sad as it may be to some people, I've watched Days of Our Lives for 33 years now (wow!). I used to record it on Beta, then VHS, then TiVo and now on my DVR. I sometimes watch it daily and there are times that I have 20 episodes to watch and I eventually catch up. I love the show - I feel like I've grown up with the characters. The story lines do repeat (what wouldn't after having been on over 50 years??) and sometimes it's predictable, but it's still entertainment and I love the show. I'll also mention (not that it matters) that I am a professional and I work the standard 9-5. I try not to knock something I don't watch, but it seems that all that is on are talk shows and how many of those can you really watch and enjoy? Not to mention the ones that find out "who my baby daddy is" seem to be pure trash. I would much rather watch a scripted drama than watch people come on and yell at each other about things that most "normal" people don't deal with. I'm sorry, but if I got pregnant, I would know who the father is. And, if I wasn't sure who the father was, I sure as hell wouldn't advertise that on tv (not to mention that it has come to light that most of those types of shows hire actors and it's not real)! Anyway, people enjoy what they enjoy. That's what makes the world go round. People are watching what shows are on and that's why they are still on.

Primetime Emmy means more than Oscars at this point. Look at the Winners. Daytime Emmy mean that you beat youtube for people with too much free time. Wow Daytime Drama. They need to get rid of the daytime emmys and make them compete with HBO, Amazon, and Netflix.

Isn't winning a daytime Emmy about as prestigious as winning the Special Olympics? Do people actually watch this junk or is it merely a zombie at this point and the network just doesn't want to make any effort to improve daytime programming?

This is great news! Days of our lives is a classic, bring back the devil to possess Marlena again. What other soap would take that kind of story on? Just DOOL!
