The musical dramedy is expected to end next year.
April 2, 2018
The CW announced today that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has been renewed for a fourth season. The musical dramedy in one of the network's lower-rated prime time entries but does boast a healthy amount of critical acclaim, including Emmy and Golden Globe Award wins in 2016.
The show stars Rachel Bloom as an unhappy lawyer who abandons her job in New York City in an attempt to find love by impulsively moving across the country to California, where her elusive, long-time soul mate resides.
Bloom, who co-created the series, tweeted about the good news earlier today, noting that it had been picked up for a "final season". While the network has not commented on the show's future, it would not be surprising if it were to conclude in the 2018-2019 season.

Bing watching now. Refreshing bend on all the games people play, all our projections. Slapstick musical with honest protrayal of American culture. Definitely ahead of its time.....and will be very popular some day as people evolve and want to look at themselves in a playful way.

Good choice to set an end date -- there's a fanbase for Crazy Ex but it has just barely been hanging in on the ratings and it has always been in danger of just going up in smoke. It's been an interesting and thought-provoking series (though it has also had its down moments) and it would have been a shame if the series had just been canceled without a final run. Hopefully this final season is the show at its best and it goes out with a bang. (Also, kudos to The CW for continuing to hold to its intentions of having a final season for all shows that make it past a first season -- I'm sure it gets tough to make that happen financially, but the fans appreciate it.)
