Adult Swim announced today that Rick and Morty has been picked up for 70 more episodes. The good news will surely please the animated comedy's large fan base, who have collectively been awaiting word on the show's future for months.

The massive size of the renewal is somewhat of a surprise, as the cable series has only aired 31 episodes to-date over the course of its three-season run. The network hasn't said how many seasons the 70 episodes will cover, but at its current rate the show could get up to the 10-season mark.

Rick and Morty has been one of Adult Swim's best performers since its premiere in 2013. The show currently ranks as television's top comedy among millennials, besting competition from both cable and broadcast networks.

The series follows Rick Sanchez, who suddenly shows up on his daughter's doorstep after being missing for almost 20 years. It isn't long until he has converted their garage into his own personal lab, which he uses to work on dangerous gadgets and inventions. He also befriends his 14-year-old grandson, Morty, and together they go on insane adventures that involve traveling the galaxy to distant planets and dimensions.
