The buddy cop drama will return in 2018-2019.
May 13, 2018
Fox announced today that Lethal Weapon will be coming back for a third season. While the action drama remains a solid ratings draw, its future had been in doubt in recent weeks after star Clayne Crawford was fired over multiple alleged on-set incidents.
Today's renewal comes along with the announcement of Crawford's replacement, as Seann William Scott will be stepping in to play the part of a new character to partner with Damon Wayans' Roger Murtaugh. The role will be Scott's first as a regular in a television series. The actor is perhaps best-known for his roles as Stifler in the American Pie movies and Chester in Dude, Where's My Car?
Based on the movie franchise of the same name, Lethal Weapon follows two Los Angeles cops as they team up to fight crime in the city of angels. Look for the show to return this fall as part of Fox's 2018-2019 lineup.

Wayans now threatening to leave? Looks like posturing as he see's the possible (probable) end of the show (writing on the wall) because of getting rid of Crawford. This posturing is pretty transparent. But oh, they (Hollywood) think we're all dummies and won't notice how they play the game. Mama and Papa Wayans wouldn't be proud. What a crummy business.

I began watching this show because of Damon Day and and continued watching it because of Clayne Crawford. Will not watch another season of it.

It isn't so much that Clayne Crawford made the show. For me, it is simply that he was already cast as Riggs, annoying hair and all. I would actually rather have a ridiculous soap opera type recast so Riggs just has a new face. (I don't mean that literally/I just need a Riggs in the show)
I fell in love with The Riggs/Murtaugh chemistry which was also in the movies. Without a Riggs, how can it be Lethal Weapon? It can be a good Damon Wayons procedural, sure. Using the name Lethal Weapon doesn't feel right to me.

Without Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh being partners its not Lethal Weapon, simple. With Murtaugh being captain, this already throws the dynamic out of wack. Now getting rid of Martin Riggs is just ratings suicide. I understand he was a pain in the ass on set but honestly, Id rather they cancelled the show entirely than recast or introduced a replacement character for Martin riggs.
Besides that, Murtaugh lost the whole "Im too old for this" attitude as the show progressed.

the show wom't be the same you have to bring back Clayne Crawford he is what made the show. Clayne and Damon, work well on together on t.v. your making a big mistake. you rating will drop after the first show. because some one doesn't want to do something on a show you fire them. and hired Seann William Scott to take crawford place. He sucks as an auctor ok your rating will drop your lost

Saying you won't even watch the show if there's a replacement is like saying "Chocolate is my favorite and I won't try any other flavor!". You may be missing out.
It's difficult but still possible to come out with a even better show after a character change.

We're pretty much a society of ADHD. With the long list of TV and movie options available, no show can afford to have a major character change like this and expect to survive. Even if SWS did BETTER than Crawford, there won't likely be the fan base left to see that. This whole thing is unfortunate, but the reality is that axing Crawford was no different than canceling the series.

@Chris
Guess you didn't read my comment. The reason why it seemed they had chemistry is called EDITING. Damon was not talking to the other actor at all by the last episodes that were filmed. GOD do you people not know how TV and Movies work?
