The sci-fi drama will return for Season 2.
July 27, 2018
Netflix announced today that Altered Carbon has been renewed for a second season. The good news comes nearly six months after the release of its 10-episode freshman run, which garnered a generally positive reception for both audiences and critics.
Based on novels by Richard K. Morgan, the science fiction drama takes place hundreds of years in the future, in a society that has been transformed by technology in completely new ways. Human bodies are interchangeable and consciousness can be digitized and transferred from body to body, making death a temporary inconvenience.
Takeshi Kovacs, played by Joel Kinnaman in Season 1, is the lone surviving soldier in a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned for centuries until an immensely-wealthy and long-lived man offers him the chance to live again.
For Season 2, Anthony Mackie has already been cast to take over the lead role of Takeshi Kovacs from Kinnaman. Because of the nature of the source material, which follows Takeshi's journey across hundreds of years and in many different bodies, the re-casting was somewhat expected.
The streaming giant has ordered eight episodes for Season 2 of Altered Carbon, which is down from the 10 it received in Season 1. Look for a return in 2019.

The only reason I fall asleep is because of a twist that I misunderstood. Rewatched first episode, and followed every wonderful twist and turn thereafte. So happy to see it return. Daughter and I both looking forward to the next season! Well worth the effort. A technological epistemological and ontologically rich dense plot with firm grip of reality. Yeah, it's deep man!

I always try anything with James Purefoy but this was just awful!!!
It took me 4 tries to get through the first episode. I kept falling asleep. Then i got about 15 minutes into episode 2 and i just couldnt. Not for me. Way too slow.
I'd be nihilistic if it mattered

.. put me to sleep every episode.. don't care about additional narcoleptic-inducing seasons.

Tough for a show to lose the leading actor but Mackie a great choice.

I enjoyed the show but I don't know if I'm in for another season, especially with the recast.

The show is awesome but a huge change of the main actor could kill it not to mention they already cut it 2 episodes.

not a bad sci fi show. It's got a weird premise of using old bodies. But still , it's interesting, so this is good news. The networks show lost in space is one of my favorite shows on tv as well.

Incredibly happy about the renewal! Sad that Joel won't be coming back but looking forward to seeing what happens next.
