Showtime is bringing us the next chapter of the dramatic thriller.
November 1, 2018
Showtime announced today that Penny Dreadful is heading back to TV in the form of a follow-up series called Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. The new installment will be set in 1938 and will usher in the story's next chapter with a newfound focus on social consciousness and historical awareness.
The original series premiered in 2014 and went on to air a total of three seasons on the cable network. Its sudden cancellation in the summer of 2016 took many fans by surprise when it was announced following its third-season finale. After a major character death during the 2-part conclusion, the words "The End" appeared on-screen to the shock of many.
Production on Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is set to kick off in 2019. The series will act as a spiritual descendant of its mother show with an all-new cast of characters in 1930s Los Angeles, which is filled with Mexican-American folklore and social tension rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the Devil.

I was a huge fan of the original series, but im not sure if im in for another series without ANY of the original cast. The one characters death was painful, but so is life, the other characters (especially some of the immortal ones) would be interesting to see in a new environment. This sounds like it would be the perfect continuation of Ethans story... I'll give it an episode or two, but i feel its unlikely ill stick around for more...

David is absolutely correct, they are just using the Penny Dreadful name for something that sounds like it has nothing to do with the original. They should've just said it's from the makers of or set in the same universe and given it its own title. They can't have much faith in it or they would not have associated it with PD so much.

I really loved the original series. Eva Greene was definitely the STAR in the original series. She is a remarkable actress. She delivered the best "Emmy" winning performances and was absolutely astounding as one viewer stated. I will watch the PC, but I am not getting my hopes up because these never work out.

When will these wackos understand that we want to be entertained not "taught" by them.We can think for ourselves and not be afraid of not being P.C.

I would like Penny Dreadful more if it just had more social consciousness and historical awareness ... said no one ever.
Frankly, this sounds like somebody said: how do we get some cheap buzz for this new show about some Santa Muerte deity very few Americans know anything about -- oh wait, I know, let's slap the Penny Dreadful brand on it. It worked for Halloween 3, Season of the Witch, it'll work here too.

Oh great, more boring and tedious PC nonsense. Doesn't sound like they're too focused on story and entertainment but rather social and 'historical' awareness, whatever that means... yaaaaawwwwnnnnn. Just bring back the old show for a fourth season, Eva Green was a fantastic lead.

Sounds like it should be "The new installment will be set in 1938 and will be a politically correct train wreck"

I will at least give it a try but im not sure about this one. I just feel like it may not be necessary. I mean do we need a sequel series?

Sounds like PC garbage. They lost me as soon as I read "mexican-Americans" and "social tension".
