CBS announced today that God Friended Me has been renewed for a second season. The early pickup, which comes in the midst of the dramedy's debut run, rounds out the network's recent round of freshman pickups that kicked off on Friday.

The hour-long series premiered last fall as part of the network's 2018-2019 lineup. It was only a few weeks later that its episode count was topped up to a full season's worth. The show has been drawing decent viewership, ranking as one of the top new broadcast shows this season, and has improved CBS' time slot performance on Sunday nights. Reviews have been overall mixed, though lean towards the positive.

God Friended Me follows New York podcast host Miles Finer, who is an outspoken atheist. When he randomly receives a friend request from God on Facebook, it starts him down the path of becoming an agent of change in the lives and destinies of people around him.

Look for Season 2 this fall as part of the 2019-2020 television season.
