Ricky Gervais' black comedy will return for Season 2.
April 3, 2019
Netflix announced today that After Life has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes less than a month after the dark comedy's premiere, making official what many perceived as an inevitability given series creator Ricky Gervais' track record. Gervais himself had previously mentioned on social media that he was looking forward to writing Season 2.
The half-hour series stars Gervais, who also writes and directs every episode, as a newspaper writer named Tony who had everything he wanted in life - until his wife suddenly passed away. Now struggling to come to terms with his new normal, Tony stops caring about anything and adopts a new, rougher persona as a way to get back at the universe.
Look for Season 2 of After Life in 2020.

I decided to watch on Monday...ended up binging the whole show. Not bad since it’s only six 30 min episodes. It had me laughing and crying and laughing again. I was really surprised I liked it so much, so I’m glad it’s being renewed.

Funny show. But that is no surprise given Ricky Gervais writes and stars in it. That guy is absolute gold. The Plopster is looking forward to more of this show and anything else he puts out. Val, very sorry to hear about your daughter and I am glad the show is able to help you.

I watched all of season 1 yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised and loved it. I lost my daughter March 31, 2018. This show helped me a great deal because I recognized a lot of the content. I don't think I was quite as mean to people nor did I encourage anyone to die by suicide. That being said I was able to relate to all the feelings the main character was trying to convey. I found it to be very healing and something I really needed. So thank you Mr. Gervais...I will be watching season 2. So happy your show is renewed.

I liked this show, kind of depressing but I really feel for the main character.

Great news. This show has you laughing hysterically and in tears the next. Hard to pigeonhole as comedy or drama. Love it, need it, especially in a culture of rinse and repeat procedurals and reality tv.
