No Season 3 for the relationship comedy.
May 10, 2019
It is being reported that ABC has cancelled Splitting Up Together after two seasons. The comedy was a decent performer for the network, but struggled in the ratings during its sophomore run.
The series premiered in 2018 as a mid-season entry with an eight episode debut outing. After a solid performance in the spring, the network opted to move the show into its regular fall lineup for the fall season. Its ratings unfortunately could not live up to the numbers it garnered during its freshman outing.
Splitting Up Together follows Martin and Lena, a couple once in love and happily married. But as time wore on they drifted apart, eventually divorcing but keeping their house to co-parent their three kids. But as Lena starts dating, Martin realizes the part he played in their failed marriage and starts making an effort to atone for his missteps.

Talk about moronic production.. the last episode even aired with "...to be continued". I like the actors here but the premise was deeply, deeply, deeply flawed and the kids.. lord how horrible.

This show started out with a great premise (totally right MW), but then just tried to add more stuff to try to keep it interesting. They never really developed anything before adding the next thing. Eventually it was just a mess with so many loose weak threads. I wondered when I tuned back in if the creators were trying to get it cancelled. And the only actor that was I thought was worth anything was the dad in the series finale. Too little too late to fix a show that they piled too much on to too fast.

The premise was great: divorced couple living at their house separately raising their kids. Then they decided to have Martin and Lena get back together and have some hijinks along the way like Martin's new daughter. Wtf. This completely cancelled out the title of the show and their premise, while also showing that these 2 are inept and actually more immature than their kids. If they had just kept the premise then I could have been sad and surprised the show was cancelled.

Loved this show - loved the ensemble cast and hate to see it go.

I looked forward to watching every week. I thought the cast had great chemistry. Sorry they decided to cut this show and hold on to other unwatchable ones.
