The afterlife comedy will conclude its story this fall.
June 8, 2019
NBC has announced that The Good Place will be ending after its upcoming fourth season. A message to fans from creator Michael Schur was posted on the comedy's official Twitter account, explaining his four-season vision for the series.
The show premiered in 2016 and has been a reliable performer for the network with its 13-episode limited run format. Highly-serialized in nature, its storyline is constantly evolving, with each season moving in a different direction than the last. The show has also continually garnered praise from both critics and its loyal fan base.
The Good Place stars Kirsten Bell as a woman of questionable character who mistakenly ends up in a seemingly-ideal afterlife akin to heaven. Ted Danson also stars as the architect who created the community in which she lives.

How does a show with emmy nominations and other awards get cancelled? Funny how tv is like everything else, willing to sacrifice the quality to save a few bucks.

Good fun show. Sometimes a four or five season run is enough.

Absolutely love the show, but agree that Season 1 was the best. I think 4 seasons sounds perfect. I really wish more series would be planned w/ a reasonable end in mind and not just go on and on and on (L&O:SVU, I'm talking to you!)

I really like this show, it is good to see a show going out on its own terms for a change.
would I have liked more, probably, but if the writers feel 4 seasons makes the most sense for their story to be told, who would I be to argue that.
Let's hope for a great final season!!

Season 1 was fantastic, Season 2 ... it spun out of control really fast. Season 3 and 4 could have been done in 3 episodes total, they stretched the show out with tons of filler content. It was clear the show ran its course and they were just filling air time until the cancel they knew was coming soon.

How did this ever get approved to air in the first place?!
Says a lot about the average TV viewer if it survived this long.

I'm bummed, but it's better this than allow the show to run out of gas. By the nature of the show which depends on constant twists, they could keep it witty and fresh for only so long. I'm glad the creators recognized this.

What the fork? At least their reasoning makes perfect sense, tho. It wasn't cancelled...the show will simply have run it's course after the upcoming final season. Hopefully they can pull off a truly great ending and leave its fans satisfied. Fingers crossed.
