Showtime announced today that City on a Hill has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes seven weeks into the drama's freshman run, which has been faring well in the ratings and garnering favorable critical praise. The series is Kevin Bacon's first lead dramatic televsion role since his three seasons on 2013's The Following on Fox.
Set in the early 1990s, City on a Hill follows an unlikely alliance that forms between a Boston assistant district attorney, played by Aldis Hodge, and a corrupt yet respected FBI agent, played by Bacon. Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to involve, and even subvert, the entire criminal justice system of Boston.

Started out ok. Living 10 minutes from Boston, the references to local landmarks gets old quick. More Kevin Bacon , Jill Hennessey, less whoa is me whiny gangsters. P.S. The gangster's wife is unrealistic. Probably a good show in here if they trim the fat.

I watched 4 episodes and quit watching. The same story has been told before. Too many unlikable characters and actors. Why it got renewed - probably because Showtime does not have else to fill it. Kevin Bacon pays off a priest to stop his interest in his wife, yet he doesn't spend 2 minutes with her. He pretends to be a high roller, yet he lives in his mother-in-laws home and they despise each other. Bad writing.

I like this show. Showtime finally renewed a good one instead of the trash they usually renew. Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge have great chemistry.

I thought this was going to be MUCH more "Cops and robbers" really.. it's FAR more of a political drama with the N-word thrown in during the premier for "shock value". Episode 1 was good because it WAS more "cops and robbers".. then it's simply devolved entirely into a night-time soap opera. I'm really struggling to get through season 1.. I doubt I'll even raise an eyebrow when season 2 premiers.
