No Season 2 for the sci-fi drama.
May 21, 2020
Word is out that Emergence has been cancelled by ABC after one season. The sad news comes as the network announced its lineup for the 2020-2021 season. The move was not totally unexpected though, as the sci-fi drama failed to draw a significant audience.
Emergence follows recently-divorced police chief Jo Evans, who takes in a mysterious young girl she finds near the site of a mysterious accident. With the child having no memory of what happened to her, the resulting investigation draws Jo into a conspiracy that runs deeper than she could have imagined.

Here’s the harsh reality in 2020 that has been present for about a decade now. As much as I primarily like and watch only superhero/sci-fi/fantasy type shows, they don’t make it past a season or two anymore. People seem to only want crime/medical/thriller shows that blend with reality. And of course reality shows themselves do quite well now too. Thankfully, CW sticks by their shows under the genre I watch, and so do a few cable and streaming channels. But the fact is the majority of shows that make it to three or more seasons are ones that are grounded in reality of what we all experience day to day. I personally watch shows to escape that hence why I like the genre I do. Oh well, I liked Emergence. Was it a great show? No, but was it a fun thought provoking show for me? Yes. C’est La Vie. Another one bites the dust.

This was an "answer a question with a question" show. It never as going to resolve anything really just move on to the next question. Eventually it would be way off in the woods. Better to end it now.

Watched the entire season. A waste of time, won't miss it. Allison Tolman is a great actress who deserves better roles (see Fargo, the "dog" show.)

Actually this show was great. It was not like x files or lost (which I like them both). It had a mystery that it resolved pretty quickly. The family dynamics were great. I recommend watching even though it was cancelled. It's also way more interesting than Terra Nova or Forever. Also better than Manifest which I like as well.

This was a quasi-SciFi show by people who know nothing about the genre. Nothing in it was believable.
I don't know why there are a spate of these shows recently. Strangers from somewhere show up or people get suddenly changed without a memory of what happened. Then there's a big mystery to be solved. We saw this with "Lost". Even though that was a mess, nobody has done it better.

I gave up on this at episode 2.. it was clearly the SAME OLD HACK WORK for a network. Nothing new, nothing inventive. It's simply NOT possible to do more adult-oriented thriller/horror on the big three networks...So they write everything for a PG audience, not even PG13 most of the time.. which makes it all very "young adult" overall and boring.

I hate when shows are cancelled. But this was really a mess of a show. There were so many great sci fi type shows that were actually good. Let’s bring back Terra Nova or Forever. Not going to miss this horrible mess.

I'm upset but not surprised. Medical and crime dramas keep going but a sci-fi show can't get anymore than one or two seasons.
