Netflix has ordered more of the British drama.
July 7, 2020
Netflix announced today that The Last Kingdom has been picked up for a fifth season. The good news comes two and a half months after the release of Season 4, which was the historical drama's second on the streaming service since moving there from BBC Two in 2018.
Adapted from Bernard Cornwell's book series "The Saxon Stories", the show retells the history of King Alfred the Great and his desire to unite several kingdoms into what is now known as England. Young warrior Uhtred is on a mission to reclaim his birthright. Kidnapped by Norsemen and raised as one of their own, he is forced to choose between his ancestral kingdom and the people of his upbringing.
Season 5 of The Last Kingdom will use "The Warriors of the Storm" and "The Flame Bearer" novels as its source material. No timeframe for a return has been announced, but a mid-to-late 2021 release appears likely.

My favorite show on television !!! Unlike Game of Thrones, the books are at a total of 12 which would equal 6 seasons. The author is working on number 13 now, which could present 7 seasons of this show. DESTINY IS ALL !!!

This is awesome news! One of the best shows on Netflix and my personal favorite. The only thing that sucks is the wait in between seasons!

@michael dobey As usual making some stupid reply comment. When I used the word "plays" any intelligent person would understand that I meant the character. And second as usual you don't know what the hell your talking about because I'm talking about the woman who plays or played Alfred's wife. You're the worst.

You hate the character not the actress. Shield maidens were just as bloodthirsty as the men of the viking hordes. they were real as well.

Good show. And either the makeup is really good in the show or i'm just not use to seeing them in regular clothes, because besides the chick who plays the bitch I hate and the lead guy. I didn't recognize anyone from the video.

Fantastic news! One of my favorite shows, and so happy to see the adventures of Lord Uthred continue. Will miss some of the actors, but looking forward to see where they go from here. Made my day!
