It is being reported that The Last Kingdom will be coming to an end on Netflix after its upcoming fifth season. The British drama was renewed for its now-final run last summer, with filming having just begun on its final 10 episodes.
Adapted from Bernard Cornwell's book series "The Saxon Stories", the show retells the history of King Alfred the Great and his desire to unite several kingdoms into what is now known as England. Young warrior Uhtred is on a mission to reclaim his birthright. Kidnapped by Norsemen and raised as one of their own, he is forced to choose between his ancestral kingdom and the people of his upbringing.
Season 5 of The Last Kingdom will use "The Warriors of the Storm" and "The Flame Bearer" novels as its source material. No timeframe for a return has been announced.

This is the best show currently running. I hate Netflix. It's becoming nothing except reality TV

Scott , money is the reason they cancel shows. They make new shows all the time. Sadly netlix usually only does three or four seasons of a show. This one was first on bbc america who cancelled it. So at least you got four more seasons. I wish netlix would do more longer running series and they have done a few. But that's rare. lost in space only got 3, but that is probably their most expensive series ever, great show by the way,
Amazon.prime does the same mostly , however we did get many bosch series with a new version coming. and they gave us 3 more seasons of the expanse.

Why only do 10 books and not finish out the book series ? That is why I keep adding and dumping Netflix on monthly or bi-monthly basis.

Unlike Game of Thrones, this show has more source material to mine. There are 13 books in the series. Each season of the show equals 2 books. That means they could do 6 and 1/2 seasons. Best fantasy show on tv. I guess we can read or reread the final few books.

Too bad, great show. Netflix rarely keeps series going past 5 seasons, at least we should get a proper ending.
