It is being reported that Netflix has cancelled The Society after one season. The sad news reverses the streaming giant's initial renewal of the drama just over a year ago. In a statement, Netflix claimed the reason was due to circumstances related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Fans awaiting Season 2 will surely be disappointed, as the well-received series was left with a cliff-hanger in its season finale - which will now serve as its series ender. Unfortunately that means the main plot will never be resolved.

The Society follows a group of teenagers who mysteriously end up in a seemingly-duplicate version of their wealthy New England hometown. With no authority figures around, their newfound freedom could be liberating - but with no way to contact their parents, their situation turns perilously dangerous. As they all try to get to the bottom of what is happening and how to find their way out, some sort of order must be established if they want to survive.

This cancellation is the third in as many days that walks back an original renewal. Comedy Central's Drunk History and Tosh.0 were both axed with additional seasons already ordered.
