The network has reversed its original renewal.
September 16, 2020
It is being reported that ABC has cancelled Stumptown after one season - walking back its original decision to renew the series back in May. The sad news is the latest in a recent trend of networks reversing renewals months after handing them out.
The drama premiered last fall and put in a decent showing during its 18-episode run, garnerning strong critical praise and respectable ratings on Wednesday nights. It appears ABC's decision is related to setbacks in filming due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has affected the futures of numerous shows this year.
Based on the Stumptown graphic novels, the series stars Cobie Smulders as Dex Parios, a less-than-perfect army veteran living in Portland, Oregon. She's quick-witted, carries a gambling debt, has a complicated love life, and takes care of her brother. She utilizes her military intelligence in her job as a private investigator, but her unapologetic nature makes her a target of dangerous criminals and often at odds with the local police.

Other stories I've read said the scheduling was off because of covid. I hope it gets a new home. It was good.

Well, that's just bulls@@t !! First ABC renews and then cancels !! WTF !! This was an awesome show !! Love Cobie and the rest of the cast !! Storylines were good !! Even my husband liked it !! And what season are we on at Grey's Anatomy !! 45 ?? ABC gets new blood and then doesn't have the good sense to keep it !!!!

Cobie Smulders was so good in this that I thought see deserved an Emmy nomination. She didn't get that, of course. And now, a total series cancellation? This show had everything going for it: superb acting, great action scenes, appropriate and not distracting music, and above all interesting and never boring storylines. What more would a series need to stay afloat? Disappointed and confused by this decision.

I wonder if this has anything to do with it being set in Portland, given the unrest in Portland. Just thinking out loud.

Wow what a bunch of idiots, I really enjoy that show and wanted to see what happens between Dex and Grey. I think it's a stupid decision.

Dumb decision ABC. I loved this show. Honestly, like everyone else said Network Tv is might as well go to a full reality Tv channels since those are the only shows they are constantly renewing

.. it was just the standard formulaic cop/detective show with what they though was a "new" twist.. same old same old. Is it any wonder none of these shows last? They are ALL the same as the 22 season Law and Order or NCIS:CSI:SVU:ORU12 --- I mean why bother with anything new if it's just rehashed scripts from another show?
