The network has reversed its original renewal.
September 16, 2020
It is being reported that ABC has cancelled Stumptown after one season - walking back its original decision to renew the series back in May. The sad news is the latest in a recent trend of networks reversing renewals months after handing them out.
The drama premiered last fall and put in a decent showing during its 18-episode run, garnerning strong critical praise and respectable ratings on Wednesday nights. It appears ABC's decision is related to setbacks in filming due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has affected the futures of numerous shows this year.
Based on the Stumptown graphic novels, the series stars Cobie Smulders as Dex Parios, a less-than-perfect army veteran living in Portland, Oregon. She's quick-witted, carries a gambling debt, has a complicated love life, and takes care of her brother. She utilizes her military intelligence in her job as a private investigator, but her unapologetic nature makes her a target of dangerous criminals and often at odds with the local police.

I loved this show! It was quirky and fun. I’m done with ABC!

For those of you who believe that all of Portland is destructed, you are not from here. There are a few blocks that had problem and peaceful protesters were invaded from all factions. Not just one side. With that said, shows like this in Portland or greys anatomy in Seattle have very little filming in those cities. It’s just the backdrop.
I enjoyed the show and thought it could go forward. Tired of reality shows

Quite funny to read through the comments here. The show isn't even filmed in Portland. The pilot was filmed in Vancouver, BC and then they moved to Los Angeles for the rest.

I agree with a lot of the people here commenting; its less to do with ABC but with where it is filmed. With the protesting and destruction of the city of Portland, I bet the building that were used for the bar or houses aren't there anymore or vandalized. How would ABC be able to make sure there stars and equipment will be safe? We as a society are as much to be blame as the ABC and Disney Company. We will lose more shows if things don't start getting better in this world. If something happens in Canada there will go all of the CW shows.

I'm disappointed, but hardened with so many shows cancelled over my life (I liked "Sledge Hammer" if anybody remembers that one). With internet, I'm now getting some notice.
This back & forth announcement is frustrating with it first being renewed; now it's cancelled. I'm glad I'm not employed in the tv industry; sorry for all involved in that production. Stumptown was good while it lasted.

I personally think ABC just came to their senses, but other shows that were renewed and then cancelled, I think has more to do with behind the scenes and other issues not know publicly rather than them just deciding to say the show is bad. Except for maybe the Walking Dead.

Well, this sucks. Enjoyed the show. Here's hoping life exists in streaming.

What does one have to do with the other? Has the network been taping any shows? I think not, so blaming this Covid stuff on why is ridiculous.
