The streaming sci-fi series will continue in 2021.
October 16, 2020
CBS All Access announced today that Star Trek: Discovery has been picked up for a fourth season. The good news comes just one day after the sci-fi drama's Season 3 premiere, which has already been garnering plenty of positive reviews.
The big-budget production has become a solid addition to the streaming service's lineup after a somewhat rocky start. First announced in 2015, it took two years for the series to make its much-anticipated debut in late 2017 due to multiple delays as well as a showrunner change during that time. Now 30 episodes in, the series has found its groove as it eyes the now-certain 50-episode milestone which it will hit before the end of Season 4.
Taking place 10 years before the events of the original Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery follows a brand new crew on a new ship as they take on missions to find undiscovered worlds and lifeforms during the Federation-Klingon war.
Production on Season 4 will be kicking off in early November, with a premiere later in 2021.

An avid Star Trek fan since 1969, I didn't like the first series of discovery. To me, it just wasn't Star Trek. But I watched it as a sci fi series, to see how it went. So glad I stuck with it, as series 2 was brilliant, as is 3. Just keeps getting better and better, so glad I stuck with it.

Good ending for season three , though if cbs cancelled though it would have caused a uproar with fans , it would have been perfect too....
Would have completed arcs on stories set in motion on pilot
But that being said, I'm glad season four was commissioned ...lets hope it don't end up another changed decision like most series have and become a cancel

@Ed G I saw all of season 1, but I think Scott really does have enough data to judge that it’s not for him. For me, it felt like a decent if mediocre sci-fi action show, the type you’d see on Syfy, but with a slightly higher budget. It never really felt enough like Star Trek and it seemed like episodes were over in a hurry. Not my thing, but you obviously enjoy it, so more power to you.

It's a prequel that has now become a sequel - definitely not a reboot! Everything is explained at the end of Season 2.
Personally I'm loving all of the new ST at the moment - I hope that the Trek universe continues for a long time yet and we get more and more seasons of the existing shows (as well as new shows). I believe we've currently got:
Discovery
Picard
Lower Decks
Prodigy
Strange New Worlds
and Section 31

Scott, if you stopped watching without even finishing the first season, you dont have enough data to determine and make the claim that it doesnt compare to the other Star Trek series'. Now having said that, YES! We got another season! I hope this series lasts at LEAST the 7 years most of the other series did.

I keep trying to get into it since I was a fan of all the other series, but I just can't get past the second episode in three attempts. Since it was renewed again I guess I'll try again :)

@Sputt: "... if of African decent..." I suppose you'd be branded a racist if you assume that some Africans are NOT decent...would you send THEM back?
