The streaming series will continue in 2020.

CBS announced today that Star Trek: Discovery has been picked up for a third season. The good news comes in the midst of the sci-fi drama's sophomore run, which has continued to garner critical praise as a worthy addition to the storied franchise on which it is based.
The big-budget production seems to have found its footing after a bit of a rocky beginning. First announced in 2015, it took two years for the series to make its much-anticipated debut in late 2017 due to multiple delays as well as a showrunner change during that time. While things are running smoother now, today's announcement also included news that a second showrunner is being added for Season 3. Executive Producer Michelle Paradise is joining Alex Kurtzman at the helm going forward.
Taking place 10 years before the events of the original Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery follows a brand new crew on a new ship as they take on missions to discover new worlds and lifeforms during the Federation-Klingon war.
Look for Season 3 to premiere sometime in 2020.

Star Trek: Discovery is a great show with a singular, movie-like look to it. Happy to hear it got renewed. With Star Trek: Picard coming on board soon, our cup runneth over for Trek fans. Twilight Zone, Strange Angel, et al. gives CBS All Access (which I view through FireTV) a strong SciFi flair. Too bad it's subscription TV but that's where many companies are headed.

Boom! Did I guess that right or not? I knew the only way this could end up and save the original timeline of events and take care of the matter of all the future looking tech was well.....to send Discovery into the future and take most of its crew with it. This is why we've never seen Michael in any of the cannon Trek. But we all know Spock cant go so im sure SOMETHING is going to happen in the season finale that causes him not to be able to go to the future with them. So there you have it Trekkies. Now we have our FUTURE Trek.

I’m a pretty die hard Strek Fan. Every other year or two, I’ll go to the Vegas Star Trek conventions (I’m die hard...but I WON’T dress up...hehe) When Discovery was announced, I was absolutely pissed. Another PREQUEL?? WTF? They didn’t learn from Enterprise?
HOWEVER, the first 10 minutes of the first Discovery, I was 100% hooked. The story is amazing, the cast is good, and it really does fill in some of those gaps. This season 2 and the introduction of Section 31, Is awesome. I’ve always had an interest to know more about it...and now we get the exposure to it.
I hear what Ed is saying...we really need a series POST Voyager...there is so much story to explore...end of DS9, voyager crew, members of TNG, the Data/B4 story, section 31 in the future, etc. Hell, make a NEW threat that wipes OUT a major race, like the Romulus or something. It’s pointless to keep going backwards...we will see Kirk in his pajamas next...lol
But Discovery....let this show go on. It is very well done, looks awesome, and I love Captain Pike and Burnahm’s relationship. Pike is bad ass. I’m glad to see this renewed. I hope those of you that dropped it, will give it another chance. My $0.02.

Yes, more of the robot chick please. Why have they been holding out on digging deeper into HER storyline this whole time?

That's a big reach Ed. I think the Orville is a great show. Some of the episodes do tackle SJW issues with hilarious results but I'm not watching it as a moral compass. To say if I don't like the writing, I'm against human rights and equality? Are you kidding? I watch these kind of shows to escape reality and take a break from the social/political climate band wagon lynch mob. Not to teach me. I'm Canadian so I'm not part of the maga machine.

Exactly Mike. 'The Orville' is magnificent! Anyone who doesnt like the show is probably a MAGA machine, because to say one doesnt like or agree with the story lines is basically saying you dont agree with equality or human rights etc etc. I mean, not all of them are social justice warrior tinged but the ones that are are pushing those kind of messages.
