TNT announced today that Animal Kingdom has been picked up for a sixth and final season. The news comes ahead of the drama's long-awaited fifth season, which was ordered back in July 2019 but delayed due to the ongoing global pandemic.
The hour-long series has been a solid performer for the cable network. It has impressively continued to grow its audience, reaching 27 million viewers for Season 4 and ranking in the Top 10 cable dramas among viewers in the 18-49 demographic.
Animal Kingdom follows a teenager who moves in with his tough, rule-breaking relatives in Southern California after his mom dies from a heroin overdose. When the family wants to bring him into the fold, he is not necessarily ready for the trouble that comes along with it.
It was confirmed today that Season 5 will air this summer, which leaves Season 6 to likely premiere in 2022.

Always better to end a show while it's still good. Too often they get drug out for years until they're a parody of the original.

Love the flashbacks because we get to see how Smurf got to where they are today. Hate to see it end. Love this show

It wasn't cancelled. It's a FINAL season, which means it's ending...NOT CANCELLED!!

NO MORE FLASHBACKS FFS. It has ruined the show. I don't want to see flashback after flashback. I want to see the cast actually doing something. No wonder it's been cancelled.

I have to give credit where credits due, this show has great writers. Usually when you do flashback in a show the way they did it is annoying but I was just as engaged in what was going on with smurf 20 years ago as I was with what was going on currently. They did a good job of not making the flashbacks boring garbage that I usually consider to be "filler". Great job writers and I hope the final season is good.

I'm a take it or leave it with this show, I still like the characters left but still pissed about Baz. I'll watch as long as writing is good.

I love this show, but the writing was on the wall when Smurf died.
