Absentia's story has come to an end. Star Stana Katic took to social media this afternoon to announce that the crime thriller will not be returning for a fourth season. The news comes nearly a year after the series wrapped its third season on Amazon Prime Video.

In a message to her followers, Katic wrote that continuing the show for Season 4 was considered, but ultimately it was always planned for a three-season run. She went on to thank the crew, producers, and audience for helping the show become successful.

Absentia premiered in 2017 with Katic in her first lead television role since her 7-year stint on ABC's 'Castle'. In the show she plays FBI agent Emily Bynre, who six years ago mysteriously disappeared while hunting one of Boston's most notorious serial killers. Long-presumed dead, she is found barely alive in a cabin in the woods with no memory of what happened to her while she was in captivity. Now free, Emily returns home but learns that her husband has remarried and her son is being raised by another woman. Before long, Emily finds herself implicated in a new series of murders.
