The buddy comedy will be back for a second season.
May 15, 2021
CBS announced today that United States of Al has been picked up for a second season. The comedy premiered just last month as a midseason entry, and is currently seven episodes into its run. While reviews have been decidedly mixed, the show draws decent ratings on Thursday nights.
The series follows a Marine combat veteran struggling to readjust to civilian life in Ohio. He finds friendship with a man named Al, the interpreter who served with his unit in Afghanistan and has recently arrived in America to start a new life.
Look for Season 2 of United States of Al during the 2021-2022 season.

It's been off to a slow start. The cast hasn't quite jelled yet and the chemistry is sometimes off. But it's a typical Chuck Lorre sitcom, taking a situation with real drama and finding the humor in it. Some episodes have been memorable, such as the one when Al gives a speech about the translators stuck in Afghanistan.

This show is painful to sit through. Not a bit funny. The cast is terrible. I can’t believe this awful show has been renewed.

I couldn't get through the hugely cringeworthy first episode... I normally give shows a few episodes, but this one was SO BAD, I felt sorry for everyone involved... Such a shame as I loved Adhir in Rules of Engagement... This renewal is a shocker...

Another laugh-track show with setup, punchline, setup, punchline, setup, punchline...
Not as bad as Call Your Mother, but uses the same all-too-familiar formula without a super strong cast.

Terrific show, highly recommended! When "United States of Al" was first announced, I thought it was going to be a fictionalization of the life of pop parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic. Ah well, you can't have everything.

Glad to see this show get a chance. It’s fun. Not filled with sex jokes.

Such an offensive caricature, though with a few poignant moments. I hope they smooth it out some.
