It is being reported that NBC has cancelled Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist after two seasons. The sad news comes less than a month following the musical dramedy's sophomore finale, with its May 16 episode now serving as its series ender.

The show premiered as a mid-season entry in 2020 and it won its share of fans who appreciated its quirky musical format. Critics took to the series as well, giving it mostly-positive feedback. Unfortunately its niche audience was limited in size, and its overall viewership was not enough to warrant a third season.

There had been rumors circulating recently that the show could be moved to the network's streaming platform, Peacock, but nothing ended up materializing on that front. Producer Lionsgate Television, for its part, will be shopping the series around to hopefully find it a new home elsewhere.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist follows a tech worker in San Francisco who experiences an unusual event that allows her to hear people's innermost thoughts and desires through songs. This initially makes her question her own sanity, but pretty soon she realizes that this unwanted ability may just be a wonderful gift.
