Word is out that Grand Army will not be returning for a second season, with Netflix opting to cancel the drama after its freshman run. The news comes eight months after its release.

The cancellation does not come as a complete surprise, however, as three of the writers had quit the series ahead of its release, citing racist exploitation and abuse. On top of that, the show released with nine episodes instead of its original order of 10 for reasons unknown.

Set at the largest public high school in Brooklyn, New York, Grand Army follows a group of five students who bravely face a chaotic world full of racial, sexual, and economic politics. Together they fight to survive, succeed, break free, and seize the future.
