During Netflix's fourth quarter 2021 earnings call today, chief content officer Ted Sarandos confirmed that Squid Game will be returning for a second season. While not quite a renewal in the traditional sense, it's a no-brainer that the streamer would want more of the show that became its #1 most-viewed series.
"Absolutely," Sarandos answered when asked if another season was in the cards. "The Squid Game universe has just begun," he continued, indicating that they have plans for the show beyond just a second season.
In Squid Game, 456 cash-strapped players accept a mysterious invitation to compete in a series of traditional children's games. Since its premiere last September, over 124 million households have tuned into the show.
