The comedy was set to begin its sophomore run tonight.

It is being reported that Chad has been cancelled by TBS. The comedy was set to return for its second season tonight, but the network has made the last minute decision not to air the show's sophomore run after all.
The move to ax the half-hour series so close to its premiere is unexpected, but does not come as a complete surprise. TBS originally had Chad slated to return for Season 2 in April, but moved it off the schedule just days before its planned air date. The cable network also ditched plans to air reality series 'The Big D' last month, just weeks before its premiere.
Chad could end up somewhere though, as filming on Season 2 has long been completed. For its part, TBS has stated that they are exploring options to find it the right home.
Chad stars SNL alum Nasim Pedrad as the titular 14-year-old Persian boy, who is attending his first year of high school. Wanting desperately to be popular, Chad's friendships and sanity are tested as he does his best to make friends with the cool kids while enduring his mom's dating life and reconciling with his cultural identity.

This show was amazing. I understand how it could be an acquired taste and certainly not for everybody. I think the target audience was intended to have a more sophisticated sense of humor and appreciate subtlety. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed the first season and thought it was hilarious.
Waiting until April 11 only to have the date pushed to July 11 and then waiting until July 11 only to find out the second season was canceled the same day it was supposed to air is very disappointing. I can't remember the last time I was this bummed about a first world problem.
To those asking "why not just air it?" I'm hoping the answer is because rights to the entire series are currently be shopped and would be worth more with an unaired second season. I definitely say "Huh?" to that whole Lorne two season conspiracy theory but fingers crossed we see season 2 at some point on another network or streaming service.
Huh?

2 seasons were made because that's the standard deal Lorne Michaels makes for EVERYONE on Saturday Night Live after a few years. This is why Kenan got a (horrible) show for 2 seasons... and why a LOT of lesser known SNL alumni suddenly pop up with their own series which only lasts 2 seasons most of the time. It's part of their contract --- your own show, guaranteed two seasons (or 16-20eps). I'm sure the contract also states both seasons must air.. so it'll pop up on Hulu or something.
As for Chad the show... it sucked. The bits were only in 5-10 minute increments, but as a sitcom.. it just blows.

I know the network is shifting away from scripted, but that still doesn't explain this move. They set a premiere for April, then changed it to today, then decide just not to show it.
All episodes are in the can and ready to go. They advertised the premiere for today. Why not just show it? Plus, why wait until mere hours before it airs to yank it? Just odd.

@floridAL
TBS announced that they were cancelling all their scripted comedies (aside from American Dad) a few months ago. This was cancelled already, just not formally. They got bought out or something and i think they're shifting towards reality.

I am sure you'll watch it Bama, otherwise you wouldn't bother making a post saying the opposite.

The Plopster found it quite amusing. I don't get why they would do this. Advertise for April and then postpone. Advertise for July and then cancel? Why not give it a crappy timeslot and hope for the best ratings possible and THEN axe it. Or at least throw all the episodes to the On Demand channel all at once so we could just binge them and be done with it. I get cancelling shows and I don't complain when it happens, but this makes no sense. I could see if one of the stars made an offensive tweet but that didn't happen.

Cool - it's premiering and cancelled on the same day. I guess the ratings came in today. Not.

We tried watching this on HBO MAX, but after one episode we concluded this was the dumbest tihs we’ve watched this year, very strange to have a grown ass women to play a pubescent boy, nothing about this show was remotely funny. I highly doubt it’ll land somewhere, maybe HBO MAX might add season 2 at some point, but we will not watch.
