The sci-fi drama was half-way through its freshman run.

It is being reported that HBO has cancelled The Nevers. The sci-fi drama, which has only aired six of its 12 planned Season 1 episodes, is being taken off of HBO Max along with 'Westworld,' which was cancelled last month.
Set in Victorian London, the series follows what happens after a supernatural event gives certain people — mostly women — abnormal abilities. Those affected find themselves part of a new underclass of citizens that are in grave danger. A mysterious widow and a brilliant young inventor are given the responsibility of protecting and sheltering these gifted orphans. But to do so, they'll face the brutal forces determined to annihilate their kind.
It is unclear when and where the final episodes of The Nevers will air, but they will likely see the light of day at some point.

I think the Covid pandemic was a major part in this getting cancelled, but I think its number one blessing/curse was that it was a Joss Whedon production. The first episodes began airing right as the big story broke about him being such an ass on numerous productions. I remember watching the first 6 of these and thinking what a shame it was that there probably wouldn't be any more of them because he had become such a pariah now that there was no way they'd continue on. In fact, at first, the advertising for the show was proudly stating that it was a Joss Whedon production, but that quickly got taken out. Now no one wants to be associated with him, so I guess, sadly, this show was doomed to sink with him, which is too bad because I thought it had so much promise. I thought it was really neat and different, and had the Joss Whedon trademark flair. Too bad he turned out to be such a schmuck and ruined any chance it might have had to continue on.

I doubt that the remaining 6 episodes will ever see the light of day, seeing as HBO and its parent company WB have taken the show off the air entirely, not just cancelled it. At least Westworld got a proper finale, since it has also been taken off the air, not just "cancelled".
Why WB is doing such a thing, only they know...

I really enjoyed the first 6 episodes and was looking forward to the remaining ones. Since the show was completed, why not run those episodes? Does HBO figure they’ll make more $$$ if some other platform wants to pick them up?

For all the advertising (it was everywhere) they did for this you'd think they'd show the whole of season one.

A good show. This is a shame. At least doom patrol is still on. Omg. That show is just so bizaare and good .

Whenever there is a great supernatural show it gets canceled. I found this show by accident and really enjoyed it. Perhaps if HBO advertised these shows they would have more viewers.
Really disappointed HBO max. I may spend my streaming budget elsewhere. There are more options now so you may want to step it up.

Oh my. Sorry to hear this cancellation news. I'd been checking to see when Part 2 (maybe six more episodes) would air and thought these next (last) episodes of Part 2 would be all but finished at this time, but perhaps not finished.
I'd have thought these last episodes would get finished, aired, and then a decision to renew or cancel would be made. Perhaps don't finish the last episodes and not spend one more "dime" on this series/effort.
While I was interested in the premise, if I could even say I understood the premise (maybe I half understood it), I could also see me becoming extremely bored with the series in short order.
I really did find Laura Donnelly a very attractive personality/character. It's too bad. This series on HBO and another series, Carnival Row, on Amazon's Prime Video are more casualties of Covid and the loss of "momentum" which these tv series needed:(

Never heard of it. Maybe better promoting would help.
