Paramount+ announced today that Criminal Minds: Evolution will be coming back for Season 2. The news arrives with four episodes remaining in the freshman run of the procedural drama, which serves as a continuation of the original 'Criminal Minds' series that aired between 2005 and 2020 on CBS.
"We're thrilled to bring even more twisted storylines to our loyal fans of Criminal Minds: Evolution with the order of another season," said Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of Paramount Streaming. "The series has always been a consistent top performer for Paramount+ and fans have quickly embraced this new season with its more serialized elements. There are still many dark twists and turns yet to come for the BAU this season and we can't wait for fans to see what's in store."
The format of Criminal Minds: Evolution differs from the original in that a single case is investigated over the course a season rather than a case being solved during each episode. Its current season sees the FBI's elite team of criminal profilers facing their greatest threat yet - an UnSub who has used the global pandemic to build a network of other serial killers. As the world gets back to normal and the network goes operational, the team must hunt them down one murder at a time.

But overall, this season has been really good and the storytelling over the season has been good. With so many of the returning cast, it's been nice to see them all again.
Also, it's not returning for a 2nd season. It's returning for a 17th season. It's not a spin-off or a reboot. It's a continuation.
