The updated sitcom will return for a second season.
February 2, 2023
NBC announced today that Night Court has been renewed for Season 2. The news follows a strong start to the new comedy, coming just four episodes into its run. Since its January 17 debut, the show has reached over 25 million viewers across multiple platforms, becoming the #1 broadcast premiere of the 2022-2023 season.
"It's so rewarding to have audiences respond and return to a show in which they have such incredibly warm feelings, and, more broadly, it's testament to how broadcast is still a huge driver of communal viewing," said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. "A huge thank you to our studio partners, a wonderful cast, incredibly talented writers and producers, and a crew that has transformed a lower Manhattan courtroom into a true family."
A follow-up to the 1984 sitcom of the same name, Night Court follows Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Harry Stone. An eternal optimist, she is following in her father's footsteps by presiding over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court. Judge Stone spends her nights trying to bring order to the court's crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding.

I'm all for (non-reality) shows getting picked up, but this is a surprise, really... I've really tried to enjoy this show, but it's so forced it's painful...

Mon Key, there is no quicker way to show people you shouldn’t be taken seriously than to call a show “woke” in a bad way. Take a walk outside and look at the world. Hollywood will not stop making sure everyone is represented in what they see on TV. Don’t like it? Then stop watching. The world is evolving and the days of the straight white man being the only character are coming to an end. Sorry about your insecurity.

I wanted to like this show, I really did, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original. The jokes fall flat too often. I like Melissa Rauch, but she's no Harry Anderson. This just isn't her role.

I found out he died in real life after I made the post. Makes sense now although they still could have retired him.

@Plop because Harry Anderson (the actor who played judge Harry Stone) died in real life in 2018, it was so sad to see hear of his passing.

They could have made Harry retired not dead. Why kill off a beloved character? Dark choice.
