No Season 2 for the high profile drama.

Word is out that HBO has cancelled The Idol after one season. Coming less than two months after its freshman finale, the news is no surprise as the drama garnered a less-than-favorable reception from critics and viewers.
"The Idol was one of HBO's most provocative original programs, and we're pleased by the strong audience response. After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season," said the cable network in a statement. "We're grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work."
The series stars Lily-Rose Depp as Jocelyn, an up-and-coming pop star looking to get her career back on track after a nervous breakdown caused her last tour to be canceled. To claim her status as the hottest pop idol in America, she begins a complicated relationship with unsavory promoter Tedros, played by pop star The Weeknd, who has a sordid past.

Literally never heard a good thing about this show. Bad performances, bad storylines, weird r*pe fantasies. Nobody liked it.
And good lord do people have to make EVERYTHING into culture war BS? It was an awful show that got cancelled and mocked by everyone that saw it. It was absolutely not “woke”, and the people constantly throwing that word around have lost the plot so long ago that I’m convinced their brains are forgetting all the other words they used to know.

This is no surprise. HBO attempted to shock people into watching this dumpster fire. They spent months hyping this steamy turd, because they knew how awful it was.

P.S.: Do people even think before spewing "go woke, go broke"? It was cancelled BECAUSE of woke culture. Because the wokes saw a depiction of toxic relationships, sexual exploitation, emotional control and manipulation, etc. and rejected the show. I am really curious what mental gymnastics one has to come up with to consider this show woke...

,, as I hate watched.. I kept wondering.. what genius green lit this thing in the first place? And what brain trust casted "the weekend" (although he did indeed look like a greasy, scummy, pimp - which, I guess, was the point.)

Lily Rose Depp was fantastic. The Weekend sucked. The story should have been better. I thought Hank Azaria and his girl friday should have whacked Tedros. Would have been a better ending. P.S. Sam Levinson has probably peaked.
