Netflix announced today that Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal is coming back for a second season. The streamer has ordered another three episodes of the docuseries that will premiere in just a few weeks time.
The true crime series premiered early this year, documenting the downfall of one of South Carolina's most powerful and prominent families that started with the death of teenager Mallory Beach in a drunken boating accident. The driver of the boat, Paul Murdaugh, and his mother were later found murdered, exposing a long history of corruption and cover-ups.
Season 2 takes place after Alex Murdaugh was found guilty of the murder of his wife and son, giving the people of the Lowcountry an understanding of what happened the night of June 7, 2021. Episodes will feature first-hand accounts from those who were there the days leading up to and following the murders, including former family housekeeper Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson and Mushelle "Shelly" Smith, caregiver for Libby Murdaugh, who both became some of the most powerful witnesses at the trial.
Season 2 of Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal premieres on Wednesday, September 20.
