AMC announced today that Dark Winds has been renewed for Season 3; the news coming two weeks after the Western thriller wrapped its sophomore run. The series returned in July with another 6-episodes that again garnered high praise from both critics and viewers alike.
"We started this journey with very high hopes for this series, given the remarkable source material and extraordinary creative team behind it, and it has delivered on every level," said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. "From the beloved novels, to an incredibly collaborative producing team that includes Robert Redford, George R. R. Martin, showrunner John Wirth and star Zahn McClarnon, to the entire cast and crew, there is so much storytelling yet to come in this universe. Thanks to the fans for embracing this series and the critics for celebrating and shining a light on it."
Set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation, the series follows Tribal Police Officer Joe Leaphorn, who is dealing with a double murder case. The closer he gets to the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past. Joining him in the investigation is his new deputy Jim Chee, and together they must challenge their own spiritual beliefs while battling forces of evil on the path to salvation.
In Season 2, Leaphorn reunites with his former deputy turned private eye when separate cases bring them together in pursuit of the same suspect. They find themselves in the high desert of Navajo Country chasing a killer who's turned his sights on them to protect a secret that challenges Leaphorn's moral and professional code.
Look for Season 3 of Dark Winds in 2025.

Actually, nevermind, most mini-series are longer than this 'season'.
Shogun - 5 episodes - 12 hrs
North and South - 6 episodes - 9 hrs
Roots - 8 episodes - 9 hrs
Also very funny to see someone squeeze in some random anti-union sentiments on a post about a tv show being renewed. The whacked writers and overly demanding auto workers? Lol, maybe you just shouldn’t watch tv or drive cars if you despise television writers and autoworkers that much.
Honestly the way season 2 ended is seemed like that may have been it. Nice to know a S3 is coming.
