The political docuseries airs its final episode this Sunday.
November 7, 2023
Showtime announced today that The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth is coming to an end after eight seasons. The political docuseries will air its series finale this Sunday, capping a total run of 130 episodes.
Since the historic 2016 presidential race, the series has taken a look behind the curtain of the Trump era of presidential politics, revealing the intense, inspiring, and infuriating stories behind the headlines. The hosts have traversed the globe to capture what the public rarely sees and explore the high human drama inherent in American politics.
"When we started The Circus in 2016, we thought it would be a one-and-done deal. Eight seasons and 130 episodes later, we're still agog that Showtime gave us the trust and support that kept us cranking on this long, strange trip - and let us prove that our idea of doing a weekly, behind-the-scenes, real-time doc series on American politics wasn't as unhinged as it seemed," said host and executive producer John Heilemann. "Our belief in the importance of the story we've been covering and our eagerness to keep covering it, Circus-style, hasn't changed. So when people ask what's next, all we can say is: stay tuned."

I am beyond disappointed to hear The Circus has been cancelled. This was an important moment in our country's political history, and they captured the whole unprecedented mess. They deserve an award for excellence in journalism, not the boot. Why are they pulling the plug on the eve of 2024?

That's too bad. I've began watching it since about half way through its run. They've done a great job showing what a shit show the fascist republicans have become since the tea party (really since gingrich in the 90s), and under trump, and continues to be. And this coming from a former life long republican.

If they continue it during the 2024 election, it'll show the failures of Lyin' Biden and the Democrats.

I totally agree with @sandwich. This is one of Paramount+(Showtime) greatest hits. All this cancelling is due to production costs. Many ratings healthy shows are getting the axe, due to the merging of Media giants, and their cost cutting measures. Anyone notice that there hardly any stand alone, independently scripted shows on basic cable these days?

We should all be afraid of the same old and dry yet festering and frothing sh*t.

Seems like a mistake considering what a shit show the 2024 election are going to be.
