Max announced today that Bookie has been picked up for a second season. The news comes just two weeks after the comedy wrapped its freshman run, which garnered a positive reception from both critics and viewers. The show was created by Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay.
"There's no doubt that Chuck and Nick's Bookie won big this season as they took us on a hilarious ride into the underbelly of illegal sports gambling, featuring a cast led by another dynamic duo: Sebastian Maniscalco and Omar J. Dorsey," said Channing Dungey, Chairman, Warner Bros. Television Group. "I'm looking forward to watching more of their antics in season two. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew, and thanks to our partners at Max."
The half-hour series follows Danny, a veteran Los Angeles bookie who is dealing with the potential legalization of sports gambling in California, which could completely upend his business. Alongside best friend and former NFL player Ray, side-hustling sister Lorraine, and reformed drug dealer Hector, Danny must manage his increasingly unstable clients as he tries to settle their debts - all while making a number of risky bets of his own.
