Netflix announced today that Berlin has been picked up for a second season. The news comes less than two months after the Spanish series released its 8-episode freshman run, which ultimately garnered a mixed reception from both critics and viewers.

During its premiere week, the show was the most-watched series globally and reached the Top 10 in 91 countries. Since then it has remained in the Top 10 for 7 consecutive weeks in non-English TV, amassing 348 million hours viewed and 53 million total views. The series currently ranks at number 9 among the most-watched non-English language series in the history of Netflix.

A spin-off of 'La Casa de Papel,' aka 'Money Heist,' Berlin follows one of the most extraordinary heists of the hedonistic and clever Berlin. In a time when he still has no idea of his illness and hasn't gotten trapped in the Spanish Mint, Berlin starts planning one of his most extraordinary heists: making €44 million in jewels disappear like some sort of magic trick. To accomplish this, he enlists the help of one of the three gangs he's ever stolen with.

It will be a bit of a wait for Season 2 of Berlin, as filming is not expected to begin until sometime in 2025.
