CBS announced today that The Young and the Restless has been picked up for an additional four years, taking the long-running soap through to at least Season 55 in 2027-2028.
"The Young and the Restless has been a staple of daytime television for over 50 years, and it is with great pleasure that we will continue that legacy at CBS," said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. "The talented cast and writers deliver compelling performances and stories on a daily basis and have provided iconic moments that have kept the show on top of the ratings and thrilled generations of fans for over five decades. We look forward to seeing what new creative twists and turns they have planned for the folks of Genoa City."
Daytime television's top drama for more than 35 years, the series is averaging 3.5 million viewers this season. It celebrated its 50th anniversary last March.

Long-time viewer of these shows, and while it’s great for the cast and crew that they still have somewhere to work, the shows are pretty dreadfully written for the most part. Josh Griffith is truly awful at what he does. Something will happen and they’ll forget about it for weeks at a time, and then for like two full weeks they’ll beat you over the head with it. New characters will debut, or old characters will come back with a new actor playing them, only to be completely removed from the show in favor of the same characters that have been around for decades. A new villain like Ashland Locke will show up, and he’ll be dead within a year.
It’s tough for a show that’s been on for 50 years to be fresh, but gosh I wish they’d try harder.
