Prime Video announced today that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been renewed for a third season. The news comes four months after the drama wrapped its sophomore run on the streaming service.
Since its 2022 debut, the show has been a global success for the streamer, attracting over 170 million viewers worldwide and serving as one of the strongest drivers for new Prime membership sign-ups. Seasons 1 & 2 have garnered positive reviews, with critics praising its epic scope and production values.
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power continues to captivate audiences worldwide, and we're thrilled that a third season is underway. The creative team has an extraordinary vision of what's to come with stories that have left us enchanted and enthralled," said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. "We look forward to continuing this epic journey, for our global customers, delving even deeper into the legendary tales that shaped Middle-earth."
Set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings,' the series takes place during an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, and an evil villain threatened to cover the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, characters both familiar and new confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. Kingdoms across the land will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

IIRC all they have left to cover is the 9 rings for Men, the One ring, and then a big battle which exiles Sauron.
