A drama about the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history.

Set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings', this drama takes place during an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, and an evil villain threatened to cover the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, characters both familiar and new confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. Kingdoms across the land will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

Although it pains seeing an Istar in the Second Age (they weren't there yet) for something as dry as Tolkien's Silmarillon they made a good run of it.
Seeing the comments about "woke" here: get over yourself. There are indeed shows that suffer under writers/directors trying to hammer in their idea of how the world should be but this one isn't one. It is an epic story and placing it in the Second Age gives them a lot of leeway. I particularly liked the Elrond character already displaying parts of the wisdom he will have later.
The music however is way too bombastic for me. We get it, it is important, but if you use it this often it is laughable.
Looking forward to the 2nd season, there is a lot to work with.

Still shaking my head over the black-skinned elves and hobbits. The fact none exist in the 3rd age means Eru must have smite them. Or . . . . It is all woke trash.

Commenting here just to offer a counter-opinion to the trolls bashing it probably without even watching it. I thoroughly enjoyed the series. It was beautifully filmed, well acted, well written and great special effects. I'm not a Tolkien fanboy - I read and enjoyed The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings back in the 70's/80's and saw the movies, but I never read The Silmarillion so I don't know how much of this comes directly from Tolkien's writings and how much was made up by the showrunners, but honestly I really don't care. It was fun and I'm looking forward to the next season!

Yeah, this was just trash. Boring and makes no sense, it also snubs JRR Tolkien and his lore and the mythologies he built in favor of wokeness and modernization.

Boring, the shire people are just childish to watch, as wooden as the tress. Its needs some action and better acting. Hard going watching it as its draining my will to live, its so dull.

Oof! Hopefully this gets better! I’m pretty easy to please when it comes to tv, especially this genre but the first episode was borderline unwatchable. Episode 2 was better but they definitely have some work to do. Only time will tell I guess.

Don't watch, you are better off watching paint dry.
