It is being reported by Deadline that Prime Video has cancelled Clean Slate after just one season. The news comes two months after the comedy released its 8-episode freshman run.

Co-created by Laverne Cox, George Wallace, and Dan Ewen, the series was originally in development at Peacock in 2020 before eventually getting a series order by Amazon Freevee. When Freevee was shuttered, the show ended up at Prime Video.

Clean Slate stars Wallace as Harry Slate, an old-school Alabama car wash owner whose estranged child he thought was a son returns home to Mobile after 17 years as a proud, trans woman named Desiree, played by Cox. Now roommates, Desiree tries to repair the fraught relationship with her father as they contend with vastly different points of view. Desiree thought her homecoming would be temporary, but as she plants fresh roots, she realizes that there may be space for her in Mobile after all.
