ABC announced today that The Golden Bachelor has been renewed for a second season. The news comes nearly a year-and-a-half after the dating series wrapped its freshman run. The pickup is no surprise, as the show's inaugural season averaged 10.4 million viewers after the first 35 days across platforms, making it the strongest average for any season of an ABC unscripted series since 'The Bachelor' during the 2019-2020 season.
The dating series gives an older hopeless romantic a second chance at love by helping him find a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life. The women arrive at the bachelor mansion with a lifetime of experience living through love, loss, and laughter - each of them hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of possibilities.
The first season of the show made headlines after it was announced that winning couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist were divorcing just three months after the network aired their wedding as a live special.
The Golden Bachelor for Season 2 will be Mel Owens, a 66-year-old former NFL veteran-turned-lawyer. After the passing of his father and the end of his marriage, Mel spent several years as a devoted dad and is now ready to meet someone who shares this vision and finally find that perfect teammate he's been waiting for in his golden years.
