The prime time game show will again feature celebrities.
April 23, 2025
ABC has announced that Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is coming back for a new season. It will be the game show's fourth season since returning in 2020.
Based on a British format, the series started out back in 1999 and became an instant hit, airing in prime time to audiences that flocked to the program. It was a flagship on the network for multiple seasons until it eventually wore out its welcome. Its prime time format was cancelled and the show moved over to syndication, where it had a successful 17-year run until being cancelled in 2019.
Less than a year later, ABC decided it wanted back in the game, ordering a new prime time edition hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel will be back next season, which will again see two celebrity contestants play together with the hope of winning $1 million for the charity of their choice.

Maybe they could have a contest where a lucky person playing at home wins what the celebrities win or at least a portion.

It could be worse, they could've chosen Jimmy Fallon! :D

I like the game, but keeping Kimmel is the reason I can't watch that overrated moron anymore. Change the host, and I bet it will increase in viewership. But I am OUT!

This show went downhill when they stopped having regular people on and only put on ''celebrities''.

Yes, because renewing a show hosted by a guy who gets some of the worst ratings in TV - and is clobbered by a cable news comedy show - is the way to go. But hey, Disney be making Disney decisions, and this is peak 2025 Disney decision-making.
