The game show will be back for a 22nd season.
May 23, 2020
ABC has announced that Who Wants to Be a Millionaire has been renewed for the 2020-2021 season. It will be the game show's second season in its current iteration, which sees celebrity contestants trying to win up to $1,000,000 for charity.
Based on a British format, the series started out back in 1999 on ABC and became an instant hit, airing in prime time to audiences that flocked to the program. It was a flagship on the network for multiple seasons until it eventually wore out its welcome. Its prime time format was cancelled and the show moved over to syndication, where it had a successful 17-year run until being cancelled in 2019.
But less than a year later, ABC decided it wanted back in the game, ordering a new prime time edition hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. It's not clear whether next season will retain the current format with celebrities or whether it will return to having regular contestants.

My comment is actually a question for an upcoming show that could have been taped a couple of months ago. Iām a fan of Clay Aiken, and was wondering if he will be on this show this winter.? He has a wonderful charity, that I have given to, and he has a great rapport in the past with Jimmy. I would love to see him on the show!
Please let me know if you can.. thanks

I wasn't a fan of Jimmy Kimmel's but I am now since this show. You were great Jimmy and I really hope you return!

Jimmy Kimmel does a phenomenal job hosting the new version of the show, Philbin would never come back because of his age, he's 88 years old and I just don't see it happening. I truly hope that they bring back Whiz Kids Week from the Chris Harrison version, and bring back Sojas Wagle or Shiva Oswald.

Celebrity is a hit and miss. Not a Jimmy Kimmel fan but as long as show is well put together with questions and guests I will watch. Won't be watching this week however, I will not support Anderson Cooper or anyone else on CNN. Their bias reporting costs lives and sent a lot of bad information to viewers during covid19. We need to know how to deal with virus not on them pissing off the president with stupid questions and than reporting that. If they were really out to help get the information out to the American people they would of asked relevant questions. Hope they get some good guests, really like see support for charities even if its their own. We need more shows right now to help charities raise money!!!

@ChrisW: If Regis were able to come back and host it, do you think the ratings would be higher?
YES, I think America misses Regis. Seriously. He was a great host and funny!! I mean, he is 90, though.
Craig Ferguson: Celebrity Name Game (NO idea why that wasn't renewed) was great! So Funny! Also enjoyed the Late Late show with the pantomime horse and Geoff the Skeleton!
Both hosts would be better than Kimmell, IMHO.
BTW, does anyone else wish for a Late Night show with Absolutely NO POLITICS, either way? I sure do. Just silly.
Off topic, but I would rather have early-on MADTv than today's SNL.
Happy Viewing.

I daresay Kimmel the Kommie won't be able to keep politics out of it.

hosts are not irrelevant. But the shows premise is more important than the host. Regis was great. He would bring higher ratings maybe, remember this is 2020 and he has no morning show anymore. But if you enjoy this show you will watch it regardless of the host.

If you don't think the hosts matter, ask yourself this:
If Regis were able to come back and host it, do you think the ratings would be higher?
