The long-running game show will end this season.
May 17, 2019
It was announced today that Who Wants to be a Millionaire has been cancelled after 17 seasons. Currently airing in syndication, the game show will end an impressive run that dates back to 1999.
Based on a British format, the series started out as an almost instant hit on ABC, airing in prime time to audiences that flocked to the program. It became the network's bread and butter for multiple seasons, airing multiple times each week. But viewer fatigue eventually set it, and its prime time format was cancelled.
Since then, the show has continued to air in syndication as a daytime staple, and has undergone multiple format tweaks and hosts. And now, after its 17th season, the show will conclude its run.

So disappointed that the show is cancelled! I think Chris Harrison has been doing a great job as host; I hope they reconsider.

Too many easy questions. Too much chit-chat with contestants. Became hard to watch live. Viewers want more trivia, ala Jeapordy.
