The daytime soap will return for a second season.

CBS announced today that Beyond the Gates has been renewed for Season 2. The news comes less than three months after the daytime soap opera debuted on the network.
Since its February premiere, the show has improved the time period by 48% in broadcast viewership and 67% in multiplatform viewing.
Set in a leafy Maryland suburb outside of Washington, D.C., the series follows The Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family living in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States. While they are considered the very definition of Black royalty, behind the pristine walls and manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered.

I'm surprised that a new soap could get reupped give that the genre has a largely niche audience made up of retirees and bored homemakers. In my mind, in the current daytime TV landscape, game shows and talk shows rule.

Garbage??? This soap is fun and refreshing and I am happy to hear that it was renewed. And this is coming from someone who never cared for soap operas.

David it's like every other soap opera. Also in all my years of watching soaps I've never seen main characters who look like me. This is huge and I'm glad it is being renewed.

David…it’s my guilty pleasure! It’s cheesy, corny and overacted, but so fun to watch. It’s garbage, but fun garbage.
