AMC announced today at San Diego Comic-Con that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has been renewed for a fourth and final season. The pickup is an early one, coming over a month before the spin-off series returns for Season 3. Production on the eight-episode final season is slated to begin this month in Spain.
"Across two extraordinary series spanning almost two decades - Norman and Melissa have given life to two of the most iconic characters in the history of television. Daryl and Carol have taken fans on an unforgettable and intensely human journey of challenge, survival, hope and friendship, and the response from fans, from the very first moments of The Walking Dead, has been remarkable. We can't wait to share the upcoming third season of Daryl this fall and to begin production on this fourth and final season in Spain," said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. "Whatever awaits these two beloved characters, we know The Walking Dead Universe is a timeless franchise that holds endless possibilities for story and characters new and old."
"Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey," said Norman Reedus. "I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride. It's been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it's been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it. This finale isn't just an ending; it's a celebration of what we've all shared together. Keep carrying that love forward - Daryl's journey is far from over."
"It has been the thrill of a lifetime to shoot this part of Daryl and Carol's adventure together in Europe and I keep coming back for more of these two characters," added Melissa McBride. "There is still so much story left to tell and so much for the fans to look forward to. I'm going to revel in the moments as they come and am excited for the fans to see what we have been working on in these incredible locations."
The series follows Daryl after he washes up on the shores of France with no memory of how he got there, leading him to journey across the broken but resilient country hoping to find a way back home. During his travels, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his plan.

So much time has passed in the series that even if everybody alive killed only one walker a month, they'd all be gone (think about it — if only 1% survived they would only need 99 months to kill them all). I admire the makeup work but vast herds of walkers is a very overworked trope.
the walking dead stuff cant keep going on. it will become an AMC trope.
we all hope that both carol and daryl get that plane/ship/canoe or doa wintery walk across the land bridge, then they can walk down the east coast and find the windmill in the city in VA,
from day one and two, those two made good television.
whatever fate happens... get them both back in america.
i got a weird feeling carol is gonna have a heart attack and daryl is gonna have to keep walking.
i don't want that. obviously they can't couple.
but after this many years, homes in alexandria is the least the apocalypse can do.
With the original walking dead, it seems anyone could die at any point (though usually the stars were fine too no matter how much peril they were in)
