Apple TV announced today that Shrinking has been renewed for a fourth season. The early pickup comes ahead of tomorrow's Season 3 premiere. Since its 2023 debut, the series has been celebrated as one of TV's best-written comedies, earning multiple Primetime Emmy Award nominations and a Critics Choice Award win for Michael Urie for his performance in the show's sophomore season.
The half-hour series stars Jason Segel as Jimmy, a grieving therapist who starts to disregard the rules and tell his clients precisely what he thinks. Ignoring his training and the ethics of his profession, Jimmy finds himself effecting tumultuous changes to people's lives - as well as his own.

It took awhile for this series to find its footing. A big reason is that they are going for more than just laughs. It's about the very serious subject that we are all mortals and nothing lasts forever. Jimmy lost the love of his life, Paul is dealing with the slow death of Parkinson's, and Liz is dealing with the empty nest syndrome. Every major character in the show is in transition. Yeah, there are lots of laughs but it's the cutting edge of this show that makes it worth watching.

MILD SPOILER: The scene where he threw up while playing the piano...I think I rewound it ten times.
