No Season 2 for the Duffer Brothers drama.
June 17, 2026
It is being reported by Deadline that The Boroughs has been cancelled by Netflix after one season. The news comes less than a month after the sci-fi drama released its freshman run.
The news is somewhat unexpected, as the series includes Stranger Things' The Duffer Brothers as two of its executive producers and had come to be known as 'Stranger Things with seniors.' And while it was relatively well-received by critics and viewers, it ultimately failed to draw a sizeable audience.
Set in a seemingly perfect retirement community, the series follows a grieving newcomer who has a monstrous encounter that inspires him to join a misfit crew of unlikely heroes who uncover a dark secret that proves their "golden years" are more dangerous, and they are more formidable, than anyone expects.

I am truly disappointed that there won’t be a season 2. I really enjoyed this show and while it did end well, it left it open for a season 2. (SPOILER) No one is mentioning that at the end when he went to the bathroom and washed his hands and face, that the weird static distortion appears a couple of times in the bathroom mirror which means this isn’t over. If they wouldn’t have included that this would have been a perfect ending to a 1 season limited series. My friends and I were really looking forward to see where this was going. It is a real shame that it didn’t gain a foothold. Another good show got the axe and is most likely going to get replaced by a show you have to read to understand.

So, they cancelled this so they can replace it with a show that has subtitles which drives me crazy. Way to go Netflix.

At least no reasonable person who passed 3rd grade can honestly say that "Netflix didn’t give this show a chance." It had 8 episodes. I think they got it based of ST but after a few shows Streamers are going to know what they brothers make. If this had taken off then they would be untouchable, but this brought them back to earth.

Cancel what, exactly? The story wrapped up well and had a proper conclusion. There’s nothing left to tell.

I really enjoyed this show. Very disappointed it wasn’t given a chance to build a following.

Given that they're both on Netflix...
'A Man on the Inside' and 'The Boroughs' crossover series. Who's with me?

Well how it ended it seems like it should have been a one season and done anyways. I'm not disappointed how it ended. It ended with an ending.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this odd little show. It wasn't predictable, but it started a little slow, which some watchers can't be bothered with. Wonderful acting and very imaginative. I'd be all for a Season 2 and Season 1 did end well. More character and plot development could have made for a good Season 2. Too bad there's not going to be more.

Proof The Duffer Brothers can't do anything right!
They disappointed with Stranger Things and now this!
