15 years ago, the world's power shut off. Computers, phones, lights, cars, airplanes - everything suddenly went black without explanation.
Fast forward to present day, where a strong-willed young woman named Charlie, along with her uncle and a rogue band of survivors, set out to rescue her brother, overthrow the militia, and re-establish the United States of America.
Along the way, they explore the mystery of why the power failed, and if it will ever return.

Like the show but needs a better cast and more excitement.
I like some of the characters on the show and Charlie is stunning to look at. She has to be, though. I personally couldn't watch her on TV if she wasn't so pretty. She just can't act... and she's not the only one with this problem. The talent of a few cast members just isn't enough to hold together a thin premise and otherwise weak and completely derivative storyline.
All of that said, the ratings are high enough that this show may continue in spite of itself.
Warning: Here be spoilers - so do not read if you want to keep your suspension of disbelief.
#1) all cars. modern cars run on computers - an EMP would fry the components, yes. What about older cars without computers? the only electrical part is the spark plug circuit. Did that get fried too? What about older diesel cars? no spark plug needed. 100% mechanical. why would it die? Are all mechanical devices fried too? Aparently not, because steam still works. Jet engines can be built without electrical components - pulse jet - etc.
#2) batteries. Batteries are a chemical reaction. If there were a technology invented that stopped all chemical reactions, why would wood burn? Why would people digest food? Why would gunpowder work?
#3) batteries, part 2. So, say it isn't in the battery itself, it is in the conductor. ok, that's better, but what else uses conductors of charge? how about nerves in a body. If charges can't move through wires, how can charges move through a body to make it work? Electricity uses electrons, while the body uses ions, sodium, potassium, calcium, but still these are electrically charged moving particles...
#4) special electromagnetic technology. This one is the most plausible, but it has to be specifically controlled, because what else is electromgnetic? LIGHT! Light is an electromagnetic wave, much like the combined parts of electricity, the moving electrons (solar, batteries) and the magnets (for generators and wind, hydro, etc). If one of these parts can be eliminated, that would also impact light, and photosynthesis, and even people and animals, since every light photon has an electric field and a magnetic field.
I would really like this show to be plausible, and i do watch it, but the science questions turn it into nothing more than a soap opera for me.
and yes, it is just a show. But JJ Abrams, the guy that has a hardon for shakey cam, is losing it. He needs to let go and listen to his critics and fix it.
AND STOP THE SHAKY CAM!!
