Set in 1850s Australia in the colony of Port Victory, Jack Dawkins, aka The Artful Dodger, has left pickpocketing behind to become a surgeon. But his past returns to haunt him with the arrival of Fagin, luring him back into a world of crime. He also becomes captivated by Lady Belle, the Governor's daughter, who has her eyes set on becoming the colony's first female surgeon.
