Alan Cumming Deal Is Good News For The Good Wife

Co-star's 3-year deal could signal an imminent renewal for the series.

April 19, 2011

News is circulating that Alan Cumming, who plays political strategist Eli Gold on The Good Wife, has signed a new deal to continue as a series regular for three additional seasons. This sounds like good news for the legal drama, which has yet to receive an official renewal for a third season.

The Good Wife has been pulling in steady, if unspectacular, ratings so far in its second season, averaging about a 2.2 in the adults 18-49 demographic. Cumming has been with the series since midway through its first season, starting as a recurring character before graduating to a regular for the second season.

While CBS has not yet tipped its hand regarding the future of the series, this new 3-year deal for Cumming shows that it could be a mainstay on the network for quite some time.

It would be a lovely thing to actualy see some new episodes after weeks on end of repeats and not being on. I am about done with the major networks; unless they learn from cable some lessons I predict the audience will continue to shrink and they will be left in the possiton of irrelevence.
